Dear Hermie,

I am the owner of a retail store in a good location in a nice town. The type of store doesn’t really matter. What does matter is that it’s an old store that’s been in my family for many decades. As such, the aisles are really narrow, and frankly, the lighting could be better too. During the heart of the pandemic, we managed to stay open but had to restrict the flow of customers dramatically – literally letting one person down an aisle at a time. Now that we can open up to more customers, I still notice people are not comfortable with too many in an aisle at the same time. As a result, people aren’t browsing and it’s hard for me to introduce new products to them. The way the old store was designed it would be far too difficult and costly to rearrange and widen the aisles. Plus the historic feel of the narrow aisles is part of the store’s appeal. Hermie, what’s a merchant to do???

Dear Aisle Be Back,

While I usually lean toward the straight and narrow, I can see how your narrow aisles (and low light) can make it hard for folks to browse for and get excited about new products. These days even I generally burst into a store, grab just what I need, and head for the checkout – unless something cool catches my attention – like a flashy video wall I can’t miss!

If you have some wall space near the front of the store you can create a great experience for your customers with a video wall they can’t miss. You can be creative and show new products, special offers, and even direct them to the right aisle to find things.

Plus, it’ll give the claustrophobic folks something to do and look at while they’re waiting for a crowded aisle to clear out.

If I were you I wouldn’t worry about the aisle, I’d contact a Pro AV Integrator to give your store some style and add an awesome, attention-getting Video Wall!

Let me know how it goes!
