What are the skills and traits you look for when hiring or subcontracting an AV technician?
–Seeking Hire Power in Georgia
Funny you should ask, as we’ve been actively adding great tech talent to our team at Herman Integration Services. Actually, “funny” is one of the answers to your question. We know that when on an AV installation there’s no shortage of things that can (and do) go wrong. Every tech has had the experience of arriving on a job where the walls were not completed, the network was down, the new screen didn’t arrive… You know, the AV job from hell. Well, having a good sense of humor and being able to see the “funny” in such situations is often the best way to roll with the punches, avoid frustration, and free your mind to find a solution to stay on schedule and keep your client happy. So, I like to hire or contract techs that can take a joke without crimping their AV style. Hehe. See what I did there?
The bottom line is that a great AV Tech needs to be able to problem-solve on the spot and be flexible enough to figure out alternative solutions when something doesn’t go exactly as planned. In other words, if you’re gonna work on a job for me or one of my customers, I want you to be able to think on your feet – even if your feet are blue, like mine!
